At Tannery Studios we have always focused strongly on how we can minimise our impact on the environment, and also help our shared office space and studio users do the same. Sustainability initiatives to date have included open-source IoT fuseboards to monitor power, lighting, and heating circuits in offices and studios so that occupants can monitor their individual usage on a web interface or via a communal dashboard which nudges down unnecessary energy usage, energy-efficient instant hot taps, upgrading glazing and thermal envelope insulation / glazing, and installing plunge sensors in windows to cut out air conditioning.
In addition to that, Tannery Studios installed the infrastructure for a rainwater recovery system that includes internal pipework to toilets, re-routing down pipes from 2,500 sq m of roof space, and gravity feeding air conditioning condensate in order to flush all the toilets – for 3-400 people – once the use intensity increases and installation of the 100,000 litre tank becomes economical. Social power is also on the horizon, as we re-roofed a third of the facility with 120mm insulated panels and increasing the south-facing roof space.
EV Charging Points at Tannery Studios
The latest sustainability initiative is the introduction of new EV Charging Points (electric vehicle charging points) in our car park for use. Whilst we encourage the use of bicycles with cycling facilities, we also recognise that more people are looking to reduce their carbon footprint. In 2021, new EV registrations were 76.3% higher than the year before with 190,727 new electric cars being sold. There are an estimated 477,000 electric cars (EVs) on the road in the UK and over 790,000 plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), as of June 2022.
As a result of this, we’ve installed new EV Charging Points at Tannery Studios, to enable those with electric or hybrid vehicles to have confidence that they will be able to drive their vehicle to and from work safely.
